In 1932, during the Outdoor Relief strikes Catholic and Protestant Belfast mill workers marched together to Custom House Square singing Yes! We have no Bananas! by Louis Prima to protest fair pay and conditions.
90 years later on Saturday 5th March 2022, people from all across the city of Belfast and Northern Ireland will march through the city centre for the annual International Women’s Rally to protest equality.
The theme for International Women’s Day 2022 is #BreakTheBias: “Imagine a gender equal world. A world free of bias and stereotype and discrimination. ”
We invite you to join us for an informal and fun banner making workshop in Banana Block- situated in the former Strand Spinning Mill in East Belfast led by artist Jacky Sheridan who designed our protest banner at the main entrance!
We will create our own banners for the rally with uplifting messages, raise our voices and create a space to meet new friends ahead of the rally on 5th March 2022.
