Art, Activism & Music
An on going visual art series celebrating our rich musical history in Belfast.
The Art of Ponyhawke celebrates 6 years of collaboration between Fiona McDonell and our own Sound Advice founder, Marion Hawkes. Long ago, in 2016, illustrator Fiona McDonnell and DJ extraordinaires, Dillion McDonnell & Marion Hawkes, got together to chat posters for Ponyhawke!
It was friendship at first sight and after 6 years, 3 venues, 20 plus posters, a lot of dancing, and countless tunes later, Fiona is their resident illustrator!
About the Artists
Marion Hawkes has been one of the most consistently respected selectors and DJS in Ireland and co-founder of two significant activist movements in music in Belfast, GIRL with Venus Dupree and Ponyhawke with Dillon McDonell. Ponyhawke has quietly become one of the most popular inclusive nights in Belfast, billing itself as Belfast’s Discerning Queer Disco. The club nights sell out within days of tickets being released. Marion opened the doors on Sound Advice in October 2021 and has gained critical acclaim from DJ Mag, Vinyl Factory and has welcomed some of the biggest DJs through her doors already!
